Why Study BSc Audio Engineering at RMC?
The BSc in Audio Engineering is co-delivered by Riverside Music College and UHI Perth, with teaching and assessment carried out by staff from both institutions.
Successful applicants will be University of Highlands & Islands students hosted at Riverside for this year of study, with data being held as such.

Studying at one of the best equipped facilities in Scotland you will be prepared for working in various sectors of the music industries. Alongside your studies you will have the opportunity to gain experience working in venue and festival tech’ing, music production, digital media, film and television audio production and immersive sound. Our students are regularly offered placements and employment opportunities throughout the course.
The teaching teams at Riverside and Perth UHI are all active in their disciplines and, as a result, have strong links with current employers in the music industries within the UK and further afield. These links provide an enhanced educational experience that reflects the contemporary music industries.

Unit Information
Themed Research Project (20 Credit)
Brief Description:
This module is designed to consolidate skills in critical analysis and further develop research skills in relation to a themed research project. You will critically analyse and evaluate a series of research methodologies and techniques. You will then select the appropriate research methods and integrate these skills and techniques within a professional themed research project.
Professional Development 1 (20 Credit)
Brief Description:
This module encourages students to develop a deeper understanding of the career opportunities in the creative industries. It encourages increased awareness of the industrial landscape through strategic analysis, and self-reflective planning.
The module allows the student to put this deeper understanding into practice with the creation of a business plan, which will be presented to the lecturer allowing for critical and supportive feedback.
Audio for Cinematic Production 2 (20 Credit)
Brief Description:
The module will provide the student with the opportunity to research the evolution of sound and the moving image to current industry trans-media practices/platforms. It will provide the student with the skills and appropriate detailed knowledge required to perform advanced applications of a digital audio workstation in a trans-media context.
Increase the student’s awareness and detailed understanding of the creative techniques and processes associated with capturing, synthesising and manipulating sounds for delivery of trans-media artefacts to current industry standards and various platforms.
Programming, Sampling and Sequencing 2 (20 Credit)
Brief Description:
Building on Programming, Sampling and Sequencing 1, this module will further develop student’s skills and knowledge in electronic music production. Advanced skills in programming, sampling, production, synthesis, and sequencing will be developed though practical classes and students are expected to produce a portfolio of work demonstrating their skills in contemporary electronic music production.
Immersive Audio (20 Credit)
Brief Description:
This module will introduce students to the techniques and concepts of immersive audio used in broadcast, games, and VR/AR. Immersive audio is now a significant area of employment across these disciplines and this module is designed to equip
students with the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their chosen discipline to create a portfolio of commercially viable productions. Students will then reflect on the effectiveness of the practical techniques and theoretical concepts and suggest areas for improvement.
Live Event and Broadcast Technology 2 (20 Credit)
Brief Description:
Building on knowledge developed in Live Event and Broadcast Technology 1, this module will deepen candidates’ knowledge and skills with more technical/supervisor roles in Live Event/Outside Broadcast events including systems engineering, networking audio over IP and more demanding roles in mixing, sound design and broadcast audio.
Multi-track Mixdown Techniques (20 Credit)
The module will build upon previous learned procedural studios skills. It is intended that students will begin to develop their own mixing style through research, critical evaluation and praxis.

Entry requirements
HND Sound Production from Riverside Music College with an A or B pass in Graded Unit
OR
HND Sound Production with an A or B pass in Graded unit from an external institution PLUS (on application) candidates must class their main residence in a Glasgow (G1-84, excluding G9, G58, G70, G79) postcode.
Candidates must not be existing students at UHI Perth or have studied at UHI Perth within the previous two years

The students and Staff of Riverside Music College are held in high regard by Universities and employers; we always aim to deliver the best possible and most relevant learning experience, utilising our extensive equipment and recording areas.
Our students have a working, practical knowledge not only of the latest digital approach to audio, through use of Ableton Live and Pro Tools software, but also analogue, through our comprehensive, hybrid studio facilities, enabling them to utilise the best of both analogue and digital worlds.
Audio engineering students also have the benefit of working alongside our Music Performance students, enabling them to forge links with Scotland’s next generation of musical talent. This creates an invaluable environment in which to work as we foster key networking skills between both disciplines, and ensures that the work produced in-house is of the highest possible quality as students from across our courses liaise and support each other.
This BSc in Audio Engineering is open to eligible students who have completed an HND in Sound Production at Riverside and to external applicants who meet our special entry requirements (See below)
