Elysian Pariah were formed at Riverside in 2020 they already have two releases under their belt, both from their EP ‘Believe’.

Consisting of both first and second year HND Music Performance students; William Moir (Vocals and guitar), Gavin Melrose (Guitar), Giac Matvichuk (Bass), Cameron Comrie (Guitar and Keys) and Euan Coote (Drums), the band have already featured on radio across central and northern Scotland including The Letty Roch Show, Forth Valley radio, Keith Community Radio and North Highland Radio.

The Rock / metal 5 piece are looking forward to releasing even more new music throughout 2021.

We spoke to Drummer Euan Coote about the foundations of Elysian Pariah…

How was the band formed?

The band was formed purely through college. William, Gavin and myself have wanted to write music together for a while and we decided to make it a reality. We wanted to involve some first year students, to give them a bit of an insight into second year as well, so we asked Jamie (Cameron – Senior Lecturer) and Kev (Kerr – Performance Lecturer) for some suggestions and we took on Giac and Cameron. From then on we have been rehearsing every 2 weeks on the lead up to our graded units where we were doing a self release.

Musical Influences?

I would say our musical influences are from bands in the rock/metal genres. Bands such as AC/DC, Def Leppard and Alterbridge. Purely the music that we grew up around.

How has studying at Riverside helped the band?

Studying at Riverside has helped the band with releasing music, being taught about the legalities has helped a lot. Being able to use the facilities at Riverside has helped us with the production of the music that we want to release. It has also helped us with networking in terms of working with different students from the HND Sound Production course.
