Currently I’m enjoying working with my main band The Complainers. We just played King Tut’s on the 26th of April and are recording new songs for our E.P which will be out in the 2nd half of this year. I’m also doing a solo side project which has been going well with lots of shows and good streams for my songs.
Tell us about your own musical background/influences.
My influences cover multiple different genres, artists like; Gerry cinnamon, Ed Sheeran, The fratellis, The Doors, Queen, Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottle men.
Why did you want to study at Riverside Music College?
I wanted to study at Riverside because it has so much to offer for people who want to become more experienced musicians, you gain knowledge from people within the industry. It’s a Fantastic place to study because of the lessons they teach and the lecturers, who are absolutely amazing.
How has the Music Performance course helped you – which skills/ knowledge/classes have been the most useful for you?
It has helped me massively since I first started studying there in terms of my confidence and experience in music. The classes that have helped me loads are Music Theory, Recording Tech for Musicians, and Live Performance Skills.
What would you say are the differences in working as part of a band in comparison to as a solo artist? Is there a different approach to songwriting/promotion/branding?
The biggest difference I can think of in terms of being a solo artist is that you are your own boss. There’s also a lot more freedom in terms of writing. Working as part of a band is a bit more difficult because you’re working with 4 other people who have different opinions and writing styles. Branding has been more important for my band The Complainers as we have our own merchandise.
Who would be your dream artist/band to support?
I’d have to say The Arctic Monkeys or The Fratellis because they are my all time favourite bands!
What are your future plans?
The complainers will be bringing new music out this year. As for my solo project I will be releasing more music soon and announcing more solo shows.
